Prayer Request - Smoking

Hi Everyone

I am doing really, really badly on the stopping smoking front. I have, so far, managed not to buy a packet but I go up to people on the street for one every few hours. This, I know, is not good enough. I feel terrible.

My stress levels are also through the roof. I had to leave class an hour early today because I was stressed and couldn't concentrate. Luckily I am well ahead with my work so the main damage is to my pride.

I really, really want to give up but it is much tougher than I imagined. I need your help!

Pray please. Give suggestions. Pray again.

Thanks guys

Amber

  1. Dear one are you trying to do this 'cold turkey?' If so very hard, but can be done! You are in my prayers!!!

  2. Amber, this is a very hard thing to do. There is some new medication to help you get rid of the craving, Your body is addicted to the nicotine and although some people can stop on their own, the craving will stay for a long time. I am praying very hard.

  4. I've never smoked so I can't give you any advice on that specifically, but I do know that breaking any addiction is really hard... What's important is not to give up. No matter how many times you slip up. Just keep trying. :-)

  5. I know from personal exprerience that it is possible to "stop dead" rather than slowly "cutting down", but it certainly isn't an easy thing to do. Just persevere. When the craving comes upon you, do something else that's active rather than passive as that will make you concentrate on that rather than the desire.

  6. One more minor suggestion: Write out a few Bible verses on cards. When the first urge comes, use it as a reminder to pull out the cards and work for a few seconds on memorizing what's on the cards. Thank God for the reminder.

(No, this won't make it easy. Just maybe a hair easier, and you'll nourish your spirit in the process.)

I'll pray more for you today.

  7. Amber, you might consider the medication named Chantix. It worked very well for me.

Don't be put off by the price of a month's prescription. It's about the same as a month's worth of cigarettes.

  8. I quit smoking at least four times before the fifth time finally worked. What was different? I substituted water for the oral part of the craving. I drank water to flush out my system. For the first month I was a bitch. I did have some backslides - limiting myself to four cigarettes a day - but in the end, I managed to kick the habit. Water water water - just keep a mug of water with you, sip it from time to time. That's all I have to offer. That and prayers from a now 30 year clean cigarette addict.

  14. Hey, hang in there. This is one of the worst addictions to kick. You may or may not have heard that people with the condition you have smoke to get temporary relief...so that may be an additional burden. Take care, God bless & use whatever combo of techniques you need to to conquer this!!!
